Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to support Defence geospatial operations. It covers such tasks as the provision of support for field surveying and other spatial projects. In the context of this unit, an understanding of the Defence geospatial operations being conducted and the production of the geospatial products to support the operation is required.This unit was developed in a Defence environment but may be relevant to others who work in the geospatial field. Those undertaking this unit would work independently, or as part of a team, with minimal supervision, while performing complex tasks, including complex problem solving, in a limited range of contexts. They would use discretion and judgement and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.Licensing/Regulatory InformationNo licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Plan and prepare to support geospatial operations
  • Tasking for geospatial work requirements are received and, where required, clarified in accordance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
       
Element: Operational geospatial environment is identified and equipment relevant to geospatial operations is selected in accordance with SOPs
       
Element: All resources required to perform the geospatial functions are identified and accessed in accordance with SOPs
       
Element: Provide support for geospatial operations
  • All required resources are prepared to ensure effective operation in accordance with manufacturer requirements and SOPs
       
Element: All geospatial equipment is operated effectively in accordance with manufacturer specifications and SOPs to collect and record measurements and data
       
Element: All required tasks are completed within applied time allocation in accordance with SOPs
       
Element: Finalise support tasks
  • All geospatial equipment utilised during tasks are refurbished in accordance with manufacturer requirements and SOPs
       
Element: All documentation and reports are completed and alerted to the relevant supervisory personnel in accordance with SOPs

Assessment Tasks
